Let's Talk About Energy--With Every Single Expert in the US

Okay, so debating US energy policy may not seem to be the most exciting pastime at first glance, what with all those other pressing topics to debate (did anyone see Mad Men last week?). But actually, it should be. I'm serious.

As you know, the United States may very well get its biggest overhaul in energy policy in centuries thanks to the climate bill (which now looks more and more like it's going to pass, and sooner rather than later). And the climate bill, which would make polluting companies pay for their emissions, is going to usher in a new era of innovation and technology.

So wouldn't you want to be in on the conversation being had by those who are going to be doing all the ushering? That's one of the aims of a new website called Our Energy Policy, which acts as a forum for leading experts in clean energy--CEOs of energy companies, professors, environmental groups--to discuss the nation's future. And anyone can pop in and follow the debate.

As laid out in Our Energy Policy's mission statement

The goal is for every energy expert in the country to participate together in the dialogue: Scientists, energy companies (oil, gas, utilities, coal, ethanol, etc.), energy think tanks, climate change organizations, environmental organizations, energy security, government policy makers, legislators, etc.

It's an admirable goal: try to literally get every pertinent player in on the debate. It could certainly lead to some productive, if unwieldy conversation. The site appears to be a work in progress (the discussions are already a little difficult to navigate) but there's some fascinating info here.

Check it out at Our Energy Policy.
