Entertain the Eco-friendly Way on Thanksgiving, Beyond the Food

Stuffing my face for the biggest holiday gorge fest of the year is perfectly acceptable. But when it goes on into the weekend and my only activity has been lifting a fork and changing the channels on the remote control, that's when I begin to feel a little guilty. This year keep the family occupied by bundling up and heading outside. Check out the leaves at their peak (depending on where you live) and enjoy that crisp air. Here are some green activities that will get your family off the couch:

- Play flag football.

Enjoy a traditional game of flag football in the backyard or at the park. Let the food settle and then get outside and enjoy some time with nature and your family. Getting competitive can be a great way to burn calories after indulging in a massive meal.

- Run in a turkey trot race.

Run in a turkey trot race in your area. The money usually goes to a good cause and it's a great way to connect with your community and feel like you've gotten a little exercise on turkey day.

- Use a car-free mode of transportation to get to your host's home.

If possible and you live in the same area, bike, walk, or run to the house where Thanksgiving is being held. You'll save fossil fuels and avoid some extra girth as well.

- Play some kick the can.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but my brother and I used to love this game. Everyone hides in the backyard (or park) and whoever is "it" has to catch everyone before someone kicks the unguarded can first. Get the kids involved and enjoy some play/hangin' out time.
